According to a report by the National Statistical Office, which compiled data in 2013 and 2017 on
the revenue and revenue composition of various types of nonprofit private organizations (see

Table 2.4), nearly all organization types, except religious organizations, experienced a significant
decline in revenue in 2017. Most notably, organizations primarily engaged in social welfare
services saw their income drop by 43.48 percent. This decline was largely driven by a sharp
reduction in government funding and in-kind support, both of which fell by more than 90 percent.
Specifically, government cash donations decreased by 92.2 percent, while in-kind contributions
fell by 95.1 percent (these figures are not shown in Table 2.4). Part of this decline stemmed from
political instability and shifting government budget priorities.
In addition, donations of goods from the general public and income from the sale of goods and
services also fell sharply. Educational organizations saw a 32.23 percent decline in revenue, largely

because donations from the public, their main source of funding, dropped significantly, coupled
with a decrease in student enrollment. Health-related organizations experienced an even steeper
decline, with total revenue falling by 51.14 percent in 2017 compared to 2012. These trends
indicate that nonprofit organizations are increasingly being forced to seek self-generated income
               to sustain their operations.
